Battery Plunkett, which mounted two 4" Pedestal Guns from 1899 to 1920, was named for Sergeant Thomas Plunkett, who had both of his arms shot off while carrying the flag at the Civil War Battle of Fredericksburg, on December 13, 1862. Seriously. What we see here are not the remains of Sergeant Plunkett's armbones, but the bolts to which one of those guns was mounted.
