This grafitti was initially confusing to me. At first glance I thought it was an Iraqi flag, which of course isn't even close, but it does say IRA in the center, which is 3/4 of the word IRAQ. Then I thought...the Italian flag? Of course everyone reading this immediately recognized it to be the flag of Ireland.
Even once I recognized the flag and message for what they were, it still seemed an odd message to see in an American starfort in 2015, but of course Boston is known for its large Irish contingent, and the Irish Republican Army didn't officially lay down its arms until 2005...and ten years is a drop in the bucket for an historic starfort.
