Casemates, casemates, casemates! A number of casemates that I can't seem to determine (although there are many) were built at Fort Monroe to house the (notionally) ship-killing 32-pound cannon that were emplaced to sweep the Royal Navy from the Chesapeake. These casemates are incredibly cool, pleasant places to be in the summer, and one imagines them to be unbearably frigid in the winter.
