Fort Mifflin's Blacksmith Shop, built circa 1798. This was of course to keep the ever-improving fort supplied with such things as hinges, nails, metal straps and such. The blacksmith also performed repairs on, or made bits and pieces for, the garrison's guns, big and small. Regulated production of US army ordnance didn't become a reality until the 1840's, whereupon no local blacksmith would dare to create bits and/or pieces for military arms.
